Transformed

At first glance, Jessica DeSiato seemed to be just like any other girl her age. She liked fast cars, shopping, hanging with friends and having a good time. You would have never noticed or even guessed that Jessica was hiding something, but she was. In 2012 and at 210 pounds, she was the heaviest she had ever been and she hated herself.

She remembers having no choice but to buy a size 19. Feeling beyond frustrated and with so many different emotions running through her head she turned to food for comfort. It seemed like a never ending cycle of “eating her feelings.” In an effort to help, her father and coworker Jen suggested she join weight watchers, but she wanted nothing to do with it at the time. Feeling lonely, depressed and helpless Jess turned to alcohol. She hit what she calls her “rock bottom” when she started to drink more than she knew she should.

In January of 2013 EVERYTHING CHANGED. Jessica didn’t want to live inside this body that she hated anymore and she didn’t want to feel like this for one more day. Enough was enough and without hesitation she joined weight watchers. She figured she had nothing to lose but money and weight, right?

When Jessica started to see some of the weight come off it motivated her to work even harder. She started running with Fleet Feet Sports and completed three 5ks. Shortly thereafter, she met Mike Halsey. He suggested she start incorporating weight training into her regimen. He told her that if she started lifting she would get better results and see the changes in her physique faster.

In July 2014 Jess Got to Lifetime with Weight Watchers at 130 pounds. Now that she was living a healthier lifestyle and spending more time at the gym, she started to have new interests; one being bodybuilding. She was fascinated by the transformations people made to their physiques and knew she had what it took to prepare for a show. She knew there was a place for her up on that stage. Unfortunately, her Mom became sick, and between that, school and moving, life got complicated and she had to put her dream on hold.

In January of 2015 she met and started working with Kevin Parker towards competing in her 1st show. On the day of her show, Jess weighed in a lean 106 pounds and ended up placing 3rd debut, 5th novice and 5th open. Overall, she was very happy with the success of her first competition.

It was a roller coaster from there on out. On more than one occasion, she took a few steps backwards, gained a few unwanted pounds and had a difficult time controlling what she ate, especially at nighttime. She competed in another show in November of 2015 and didn’t even place. Though it was a learning experience, it was a disappointment. She knew that she wasn’t anywhere near ready to compete and realized she should have sat this one out. She remembers crying when she walked off stage.

It was time to try a different approach. Jessica took a year off and focused on putting on muscle and rebuilding her metabolism. During this time she continued to struggle with her weight and still had a difficult time controlling what she ate at nighttime. It got to a point where it was so bad that none of her clothes fit. She found herself in a place physically and emotionally that she had been before and it wasn’t a good feeling.

In March of 2017, Jessica got a new coach, Brian Devins and everything changed. She was more than ready to compete and was prepared to do what it took to be successful. In one way or another, she looked at this upcoming show as her REDEMPTION TO HERSELF. She had learned to love herself again, the urge to binge at nighttime was gone and she started seeing the changes in her physique she knew she needed to be a top contender.

In June of 2017 Jessica competed in a huge show with 50 other bikini competitors. She placed 2nd in Novice out of 7 and 3rd in the Open out of 8, just 2 placings away from going pro! Jess couldn’t have been any happier with her success.

Today, Jessica is focusing on nursing school. She knows her time to go pro will come. Her goals are to maintain, grow and become an RN. She also plans on continuing to be a big support system for her Mom (who has lost 16 pounds) and sister who is also on an active weight loss journey. To date, her sister has lost 72 pounds. She works out regularly with Jess at the gym and plans to lose a total of 100 pounds. It’s safe to say that it’s a family affair!

Jess can’t wait to see the person her sister transforms into and is thankful for this journey because it has brought them so much closer. She says that her sister smiles more than ever now. Well, she has a lot to smile about!

In Conclusion:

Jessica knows full well that someone has to want it to be successful. She also realizes that with hard work, dedication and discipline goals can be crushed and dreams can come true! Yes she lost weight, but more importantly she has gained so much confidence and happiness. She has found a place where she belongs and a true passion for health, wellness and bodybuilding.

We can all learn a thing or two from Jessica. Never let a stumble be the end of your journey. In life we will all fall down from time to time, it’s what we do when we get back up that really matters. Remember, it’s not always about winning the race, it’s about finishing. If you win, well, that’s okay too.
