Spring into the Wine Trail

The birds are chirping, the grass is getting greener, and buds are starting to peek out!  I don’t want to jinx it so I’ll whisper it: I think spring is finally here! And with spring, brings the start of more fun along the wine trail!

We kick off May with our almost sold out Wine & Herb festival. But don’t worry- if you didn’t get your garden fix with this event, we have another event on June 1st and 2nd called Sips & Succulents. It’s a breast cancer benefit event that’ll give you a chance to collect different potted succulents at each winery you visit that weekend. Tickets are $65 apiece and are available on www.CayugaWineTrail.com.

Now that the weather is nicer, the live music is coming back in full force! Americana Vineyards invites a different band every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night to come and play for you. The Crystal Lake Café and both the tasting and tap room are open until 8pm that night so you can enjoy good drink, good food and good music. On Thursday evenings, Six Mile Creek also offers live music with their libations. Once June hits us, live music will be in full force. Lucas Vineyards, Thirsty Owl Wine Co, Hosmer Winery, Buttonwood Grove, and perhaps even a couple more, will start offering weekly music offerings.

The first full week, May 6 -12, all 14 wineries are participating in the wine trail’s first Customer Appreciation Week honoring Public Servants; the men and women who work for our towns, cities, counties, and state-level jobs. Each winery is offering a BOGO tasting, so bring a friend along. Your friend doesn’t need to be a public servant to partake, but we do ask that you bring a valid work ID to help us identify you. But that’s not all! You’ll be given an appreciation card to keep with you all week. Each winery will stamp that you’ve been there. Turn this in when you’re done to be eligible for a prize. The more wineries you visit, the bigger the swag item we’ll send you! (These can be turned in to your last winery, or mailed directly to the wine trail office.)

On May 11th, Varick hosts their annual Honey Bee Jubilee, where they honor one of the hardest workers, the honey bee! Enjoy honey-inspired food pairings with their wine tastings.

The following day is Mother’s Day, and what mother doesn’t love to be fed? Knapp Winery is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch. This will require reservations with the restaurant as it sells out each year. I don’t believe that this could be the only Mother’s Day event going on that day, so make sure to follow all your favorite wineries on social media to see what they may have up their sleeves!

On the 18th, Swedish Hill hosts their annual Anniversary Sale, where they have deals up to 50% off. This event starts at 10am, but people come as early as 9am to wait in line for this awesome deal!

Lucas Vineyards hosts the perfect Mother’s Day gift on May 23rd: Paint it Forward, a paint and sip style class that benefits the Small Comforts Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to funding and administering programs to raise the morale and or quality of life for people of all ages living with chronic illness. On the 25th, Knapp Winery hosts their monthly wine dinner. This month’s theme is “Taste of Mediterranean.” Chef John creates a 5 course menu for all to enjoy. That same day, Thirsty Owl kicks off their 1st Edition of the 2019 Artist Series where they offer live music and wine.

Paella is back! May 26 launches the first Paella on the Patio at Toro Run Winery. The last Sunday of each month, they offer live music on the deck, overlooking their panoramic lake view, while the chef cooks up the biggest batch of Paella you’ll ever see!

The wineries tend to create new events all the time, so like I mentioned above, be sure to follow them all on social media in case something pops up that I missed! Happy Spring!
