Eddie’s

You haven’t been to a restaurant in ages, so there is no better place to get out celebrate the new normal than Eddie’s Restaurant at Sylvan Beach! Rest assured that Eddie’s has taken every possible step to ensure the safety of their patrons and staff.Opening in 1934, Eddie’s, with their tradition of family hospitality, has truly stood the test of time. What is Eddie’s recipe for success? The answer is simple, take one part idyllic location, one part dedication, and one part amazing food, mix together with and serve with a smile! Eddie’s is located on the Eastern shores of beautiful Oneida Lake right in Sylvan Beach. The restaurant is just a short scenic drive along the lake from Syracuse. Eddie’s restaurant is located at 901 Main Street Sylvan Beach and they are open for dine in and take out seven days a week from noon to 8 pm. For takeout orders and reservations give them a call at 315-762-4269.

Generations of Central New Yorkers would agree that it’s just not summer without a trip to Eddie’s Restaurant in Sylvan Beach. Eddie’s Restaurant started with a hot dog stand and a dream as the country was finding its way out of the Great Depression. Since its inception, Eddie’s Restaurant has been continuously ran by the Stewart Family through good times and bad, including most recently a global pandemic! For nearly a century Eddie’s has been happily serving scrumptious food to everyone from beach bums to celebrities!

Whether you are at Eddie’s for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even dessert there is certainly something on the menu for everyone! One of my favorite things about the menu is that it incorporates nostalgic items that were classic dishes but have left menus elsewhere (such as Tuna Stuffed Tomato, a vine-ripened tomato filled with tuna salad on a bed of lettuce with wedges of provolone, or Liver And Onions, two tender pieces of calves liver smothered in grilled onions) and new and inventive items (like Pickle Fries – deep fried pickles with green chili aioli dipping sauce) that change with the times! I would be doing a disservice to you all if I failed to mention the most famous item on Eddie’s menu, and an absolute must order, The Original Hot Ham BBQ sandwich! The legend of the “Original Hot Ham” BBQ Sandwich is that on one busy summer day, Eddie Sr. the founder of Eddies, ran out of hot dogs! As the tourists grew hungry Eddie decided to make a sandwich that he only made for his family, a seeded roll piled high with capicola ham! The tourists fell in love and the famous spicy sandwich was born!

Kyle and I headed to Eddie’s on a lovely summer evening. As we drove along the shores of Oneida Lake we enjoyed watching the purple storm clouds gather and blow down the lake. The entire trip was filled with me telling my husband about growing up boating on Oneida Lake every summer weekend, swimming at Sylvan Beach and dinner at Eddie’s! As a little kid I remember walking into Eddie’s and being greeted by the biggest pies I had ever seen. I have to admit I was excited to see if my memory was correct about the pies or if they were just something exaggerated by my memory. The moment we walked into Eddie’s I was so happy to see that my memories of gigantic cream pies were absolutely spot on!

We arrived at Eddie’s right before the storm hit. We were seated in a cozy booth with a window to watch the storm. Our amazing server, Noah, made us feel welcome and very safe! He explained the booth and menus were freshly sanitized, all of the silverware was wrapped to reduce contact, and seating was spread out to comply with social distancing. Noah was a real treat throughout our meal, despite wearing a mask you could tell that he loved his job and had a huge smile on his face! At Eddie’s there are a few things you just have to include in your meal: hot ham, Papa’s famous sauce, Eddie’s meatballs, and pie! With this in mind we decided to start our meal with an order of The Italian Greens, Eddie’s fantastic version of a CNY favorite, Utica greens, and of course featuring the star of the show, Eddie’s famous hot ham! These greens are flavorful with the perfect amount of spice! We also decided to try a new menu item, Meatballs With Ricotta Cheese. This sharable dish is made up of three of Eddie’s Famous hand rolled Meatballs served with on a Ricotta Cheese, smothered with their Famous Meat Sauce and topped with fresh basil! Each bite of this dish was absolute perfection on a fork! While we waited for our entrees I enjoyed a Caesar salad while Kyle had a cup of clam chowder. It’s worth noting that all of Eddie’s soups are freshly made in-house daily and the salads use locally grown ingredients whenever available. Eddie’s is also known for serving some of the freshest fish this side of the ocean, so that fact in combination with the summer vibe made us both decide on the seafood dinners. Kyle decided on the Fried Fisherman’s Platter, a huge helping of shrimp, scallops, haddock and clams fried to a golden brown perfection! I decided on the Broiled Seafood Platter with a generous helping of baked fish, large sautéed scallops and tasty shrimp scampi! We both had an order of garlic fries as our side dish and these were a garlic lover’s dream! As I mentioned before no meal at Eddie’s is complete without a slice of heaven, and by that I mean Banana Cream Pie! Kyle decided on slice of strawberry rhubarb pie that he said was better than his moms! The milkshakes are also amazing. Whatever you do, don’t skip dessert!

After being stuck in side for months we should all make extra efforts to safely enjoy this beautiful summer, and I can’t think of a better way than a meal at Eddie’s!
