Back by popular demand, the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble’s 12th Night concerts will be returning this year. Featuring two major works, the concerts will feature Benjamin Britten’s SATB version of the Ceremony of Carols with harp, and Conrad Susa’s Carols and Lullabies, accompanied by harp, guitar and marimba. The Ceremony of Carols, originally composed for treble voices, sets medieval English texts about the Nativity story. Carols and Lullabies was commissioned to be a companion piece for the Ceremony of Carols. The composer writes that his overriding image for the piece was that of a “Southwestern piñata party for the new baby.” The carol texts come from Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico and will be sung in Spanish and in Catalan. The concert will be filled out with three additional shorter pieces by Ola Gjeilo, Eleanor Daley and Jacob Narverud.
The concerts will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 3pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles (97 E. Genesee St, Skaneateles) and on Sunday, January 11 at 3pm at the Syracuse Marriott Downtown (100 East Onondaga Street, Syracuse). The Sunday performance will feature a reception with a cash bar and sweets baked by the singers. Tickets are $15 but free for those under 18 years of age and are available at the door. Payments should be made by cash, check, Paypal or Venmo.
