Hastings Lions Club

The Hastings Lions Club is part of Lions International. Our mission is to serve our local community and beyond. We focus on the five pillars of Lions International – vision, hearing, hunger, diabetes and childhood cancer. Our local focus is the geographical area covered by Central Square School District and beyond.

The club actually began in 1984 as The Central Square Lioness Club. Over time, we had needed to change and in 2021 chartered a new club – The Hastings Lions Club. Although we continue the history of giving and serving as Lioness, we are looking to the future and are focused on the needs of not only our local community but the needs of Lions Club International as well.

The Hastings Lions Club is dedicated to serving our local community through impactful initiatives and purposeful service. Our rich history and strong member base propels us to make a lasting difference in our community and beyond.

We meet twice a month. The first Tuesday of the month is our board meeting. It is held at the Central Square American Legion at 6:30pm. The second meeting is held on the third Tuesday of the month for business, socialization and sometimes dinner. Again at 6:30pm at the Central Square American Legion.

OUR SERVICE PROJECTS

• We have adopted deployed soldiers from Fort Drum in Watertown, NY. We send them care packages throughout their deployment time.
• We collect used glasses throughout our community to donate back to Lions International.
• We annually host a FREE dinner for our local senior citizens each spring.
• We hosted our first FREE Family Fun Day this August 14, 2025
• We worked with a local Girl Scout Troop in developing an All Inclusive playground – where our focus was on the memorial garden to honor those who have died.
• Assisted cleanup during Earth Day as well as the day after “Fireworks on the River” Celebration.

LOCAL PROJECTS

• Our annual Central Square Apple Festival is our major fund raiser. It is held the last full weekend in September. Along with paid vendors, we invite non-profit organizations to set up a booth free of charge so they can raise money themselves.
• We have a group that knits/crochets hats and mittens all year. These are donated to our children during The Central Square Lions Christmas Basket give a way each year.
• We volunteer at our annual Chamber of Commerce Wine Tasting Event.
• We support Oswego County Opportunities with their spring fundraiser.
• We support our sponsoring Fulton Lions with their events such as Lions Loot or Duck Race.
• We volunteered this past year at a winter carnival for Oswego County children.
• We volunteered at the Hastings Fire Department and Divine Mercy Church Friday fish fry in the spring.
• In the spring we host a “Spring Fling” Craft and vendor show.
• We host an annual yard sale usually in June.

100% of our profits are donated back to those in need annually. Local schools, food pantries as well as local organizations and beyond to meet the initiatives of Lions International. Those initiatives are:  Vision, Hunger, Diabetes, Disaster Relief Efforts, Environmental, Humanitarian, Youth, Childhood Cancer and Mental Health. We also have an emergency fund for local families as needed for such things as fire, fatality, and sickness.

Currently we are saving to sponsor a wish child through Make A Wish.
