Kyle and I ventured there for a rare date night on a cool fall evening, the kind where your breath hangs in the air and you crave a little extra comfort. The moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted by the glow of the rolling fire and the kind of cozy ambiance that makes you instantly forget the chill outside. By sheer luck, we landed what I would call the best seat in the house (right in front of the fireplace) which, for someone who is always cold, felt like fate itself. The flickering light, the hum of conversation, and the scent of sizzling food created a perfect harmony. Our evening began with Eric (the friendly, funny, and impressively knowledgeable bartender and server extraordinaire) who deserves his own five-star review. He kept our glasses full, our laughter flowing, and our choices on point! Though the sushi being prepared at the bar looked mouthwateringly fresh (and knowing that Tuesdays offer half-price sushi, we’ve already planned our return trip), we decided to lean into the autumn vibe.
While we finalized our decisions on our meal, Eric brought out a dish of grilled bread with fresh tomato bruschetta that tasted like decadence captured in a bite. We started with the Grilled Artichokes served on baby arugula, topped with shaved Asiago, and I can say without hesitation it was one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had. The artichokes were tender with a grilled, steak-like richness, beautifully balanced by the citrusy bite of the greens and the sharp, nutty notes of the Asiago. Every forkful felt like a little masterpiece. From there, we moved to the Velvet Cut Carpaccio, delicate yet undeniably bold with paper-thin slices of tenderloin kissed with capers, red onion, and balsamic glaze. Kyle was hooked; it was the perfect balance of flavor and finesse. Choosing entrées was nearly impossible because everything sounded truly divine. With Ukrainian chefs bringing their own culinary heritage to the menu, dishes like borscht soup and stuffed cabbage rolls add a heartwarming, old-world touch you don’t find often.
The evening specials were equally tempting, plum salad, pork wings, and a duck confit entrée, but with one of my favorites on special I couldn’t resist the Linguine with Clam Sauce. It arrived piled high with perfectly cooked little neck clams, the sauce light yet briny with a whisper of garlic and wine, and was perfection on a plate. Kyle, meanwhile, went for the Ultra Rib Eye, seared to perfection (rare, of course) and served with creamy mashed potatoes and vibrant, colorful vegetables. The steak was so tender it practically melted, the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. We shared a massive Caesar Salad along the way, dressed in what might just be the best homemade Caesar dressing this side of Rome: tangy, garlicky, and addictively good. Dessert was the grand finale of our perfect date night (with the kids happily at home with my parents). I indulged in the Lemon Mascarpone Cake, impossibly light and delicately sweet, while Kyle, ever the skeptic of raisins, devoured every last bite of the Warm Apple Tart, a spiced symphony of apples, toasted nuts, and rum-soaked raisins, served with melting vanilla ice cream. He swore it reminded him fondly of his Army days in Germany, a rare compliment that says everything.
Beyond the food, Mohegan Manor’s personality shines. It’s quirky, cool, and comfortably upscale without ever feeling stuffy. The décor is a treasure hunt of history: eclectic art, old paintings, even a 1970s Cicero yearbook I stumbled upon that, hilariously, featured my dad and his high school buddies in all their feather-haired glory. And the fun doesn’t stop with dinner. Downstairs, the Comedy Vault hosts nights of laughter and great drinks, with doors opening at 7pm and a light menu available, just be sure to grab tickets early, because regret isn’t funny! Mohegan Manor also offers six unique event venues, perfect for everything from intimate dinners to grand celebrations of up to 150 guests. Whether you’re planning a wedding, baby shower, or a two-party day at their creative Island Escape DIY Venue on Paper Mill Island, the team makes it seamless and stylish, with plenty of free parking for your guests.
