Spring is upon us, even in chilly Central New York!
This season is the perfect time to do a bit of a closet overhaul and bring in some new pieces. Here are just a few of my favorite Spring 2015 trends.
Gingham: Black and white check is the way to go this season. A pair of checkered high-waisted pants or a fitted crop top add the perfect amount of pattern to every outfit. My choice for rocking gingham this spring is a voluminous midi skirt. With a black crop top to show a little bit of skin and a pair of simple strappy heels, you’re good to go for a beautiful spring day.
Slip-on Sneakers: Sneakers are perfect for the girl on the go, but this season brings back those slip-on shoes that we loved so much in the early 2000s. So break out your Vans or go for something a little more polished. White perforated sneakers are adorable with a cotton sundress and a studded black pair adds the perfect edge to your simple shorts and a white t-shirt. Whichever pattern or color works for you will keep you cool and comfortable every day.
White on White: Monochrome not only makes you feel like Kerry Washington in Scandal, it’s unbeatable when it comes to spring style. Light and airy, white screams spring. Try a white skirt and crop top combo with some white sandals and sunglasses. You’ll look like you just stepped off the runway without actually putting any effort into matching your ensemble.
Fringe: Welcome back to the 70s. Fringe is everywhere this spring, not just at summer music festivals. Grab a fringe vest or purse to look effortlessly stylish. Add a boho headband and circle framed sunglasses if you really want to fit into the hippie vibe or stick with a graphic top and circle skirt to keep it more modern.
Military: The army green military-inspired look has been hanging on for a couple seasons now and there’s a reason for that – it works. Slipping on your favorite army jacket is perfect for chillier evenings and adds the right amount of toughness to a spring outfit. Work some cool army green pants to mix things up. Pair them with some tan sandals and you’re good to go.
As you move into warmer weather and prepare for summer, try mixing things up a bit. Spring is the time to shed those bulky layers and play around with lighter, cooler style. I can guarantee I’ll be walking around the Syracuse campus in my slip on sneakers and showing off my gingham skirt. And of course I’ll be rocking my military jacket on those days when we all know Central New York likes to surprise us with freezing gusts of wind even on the most beautiful sunny days.
