There are a few things you can except to find at every visit to Gee Gee’s: delicious food, outstanding service, and a warm, and familiar atmosphere. Gee Gee’s is a family owned and operated restaurant where they p ride themselves on making the customers feel like family. At Gee Gee’s they serve tried and true family recipes (the way Gee Gee, the family’s matriarch) used to make as well as innovative new recipes that keep things interesting. They focus on using only the freshest ingredients and the best recipes to ensure every dish is something to talk about. What really sets Gee Gee’s apart from other restaurants is that it is family owned and operated by a family that has been in the restaurant business for decades. While we were at Gee Gee’s we met with owner Nancy and her son Anthony. Nancy told us how the restaurant is using her family recipes and Anthony was our server. Anthony is a great server, a fantastic bar tender and an overall fun guy. Gee gee’s serves beer and wine and Anthony is working on out of the box libations such as the jolly rancher, sweet and citrusy with a kick of sake.
We arrived at Gee Gee’s on a mild winter night in February. We were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess and sat at a table in the cozy dining room. We had the privilege of being served by the friendly and knowledgeable Anthony. We looked over the menu and knew there was a lot we wanted to try so we began our meal with the Panko smoked gouda, two extra thick cut gouda slices served in a plum tomato sauce. The rich and smoky gouda was a perfect complement to the flavorful tomato sauce. We also had an order of Anthony’s fried calamari. This calamari is probably the best in town, with its unique garlic butter sauté and prosciutto and hot cherry peppers all lightly dusted in flour. They were so good that they did not need any cocktail or marinara sauce. Lastly for an appetizer we had to try Gee Gee’s special green, an awesome take on the traditional Utica style greens, these Lyncourt greens leave the breadcrumbs out and focus on pure flavor! You can’t help but grab a mouthwatering forkful and eat it with their freshly baked crusted Italian bread. We ordered our entrees and were presented with beautiful heaping salads of fresh lettuce and vegetables. You can usually judge a restaurant by their salads, if they spend the time serving appetizing dinner salads you can bet they are paying great attention to the meal itself. For an entrée I decided on the Chicken riggies, a huge portion of tender sliced chicken breast sautéed with mushrooms, onions, peppers and in a spicy asiago plum tomato sauce. Keri decided on the Delmonico, a beautiful, hand cut steak that was cooked to perfection and served with a side of pasta and marinara sauce. We were full and had enough leftovers for the rest of the week but we had to have at least a few bites of one of their incredible desserts. We decided on a little piece of heaven, the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, a masterfully created confection and the perfect way to end a delicious meal.
