Our visit to Azteca Mexican Grill on a sunny Thursday was an enchanting culinary journey that began the moment we stepped through the door. The vibrant atmosphere enveloped us, drawing us into a world filled with color and warmth. We were quickly seated in a cozy booth, offering an intimate setting perfect for family dining, which is super important with small kids! We loved that they offer a menu Para Niños, just for them! We also loved the vegetarian features and the notes on the menu for regarding spicy and gluten sensitive dishes. They feature weekly bar specials: Monday and Wednesday you can get a Mojito for $5.50, on Tuesdays indulge in a Moscow or Mexican Mule for $7.50, and Margaritas on Thursdays for $4.75.

As we settled in, our attentive server, TJ, greeted us with a smile that instantly made us feel welcome. She promptly brought over a generous basket of freshly made tortilla chips, still warm from the fryer, accompanied by a zesty salsa that danced with flavors. The salsa, with its ripe tomatoes, crisp onions, and just the right amount of heat, was the perfect complement to the crunchy chips. We quickly realized we were in for a treat. Looking around, the decor was a feast for the eyes. Colorful Papel picado fluttered overhead like festive banners, while boldly painted tiles adorned the walls, each telling its own story. The ambiance was alive with the cheerful sounds of laughter and chatter from happy patrons, punctuated by the rhythmic beats of Latin music. The occasional sizzle of fajitas being served at nearby tables added to the sensory delight, creating an atmosphere that was both lively and inviting

Our exploration of the menu began with the Sampler Platter, a cornucopia of delights. Flautas, golden and crispy, were stuffed with succulent chicken, while the chicken tenders were perfectly seasoned, each bite tender and juicy. The mozzarella sticks, gooey and cheesy, were a hit with the kids, who could hardly contain their excitement. The cheese quesadilla, with its oozy filling, was a standout, particularly for my son, who absolutely could not get enough of them. Accompanied by creamy guacamole, rich sour cream, and vibrant pico de gallo, the platter was a wonderful introduction to what lay ahead. Eager for a kick of heat, we decided to try the Jalapeño Toreados. These deep-fried jalapeños were expertly prepared, bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced by the sweetness of sautéed onions. Each bite delivered a satisfying crunch followed by a delightful spice that was just right (for any jalapeño lover at least!) – hot but not overwhelming and enough to keep us reaching for more. For the main courses, we were truly in for a treat. Kyle ordered his all-time favorite: the Beef Chimichanga. This dish was a masterpiece – two deep-fried flour tortillas encasing tender, flavorful beef tips, topped with a generous layer of melted cheese that stretched enticingly as we cut into it. Accompanied by a side of hearty refried beans, the chimichanga was comfort food at its finest, every bite rich and satisfying.
After much deliberation, I took TJ’s recommendation and chose the Quesabirria. Served with three slightly crisp corn tortillas, this dish was a revelation. The tortillas were filled with a heavenly combination of cheese and savory, slow-cooked shredded beef, each bite bursting with flavor. The accompanying consommé, a rich broth fragrant with spices, was the perfect dipping sauce, enhanced by the onions and cilantro. I also opted for a side of creamy refried beans and tangy pickled jalapeños, which added an extra layer of depth to this already incredible dish. As we began to feel pleasantly full, we couldn’t resist the allure of dessert. We decided to share two sweet offerings. The Flan arrived beautifully presented, its silky custard glistening under a drizzle of syrup. Each spoonful was a heavenly balance of sweetness and creaminess, melting in our mouths and leaving us wanting more. The Fried Ice Cream was a showstopper, served in a crispy tortilla bowl that was both fun and delicious. The vanilla ice cream, coated in a delightful crunch, was topped with a generous swirl of whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and a cherry on top – an indulgent finale that had my kids beaming with joy.

As we finished our meal, we were enveloped in a sense of satisfaction, not just from the incredible food but from the experience as a whole. Azteca Mexican Grill is a true gem, combining exceptional cuisine with a lively atmosphere and top-notch service. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Mexican food or new to its delights, Azteca is a must-visit destination for a memorable meal that will leave you smiling long after you’ve left. We can’t wait to return and we hope to see you there!
