There’s one compensation for the end of summer here in Central New York. Well, make that a few – leaf peeping season, the State Fair, and Halloween! And with Halloween season comes one of the best adventures of the spooky time – Fright Nights.
When we first approached the new location of the venue, we were amazed at the sheer size and scope. For more than 20 years, owner/operator Grazzi Zazzara offered a scare-filled scene at the Fairgrounds for the Halloween season.
And then he moved it to a huge old factory on LePage Place off of James Street.
The building itself is a sight to behold – over 80K square feet of brick and shadows, echoes and hidden niches. Then imagine it filled with ghouls and ghosts, tales of terror and a slide that ends in nothing less than the Devil’s lair.
Whether you want to enter one terrifying space or all five, you can plan a visit filled with jumps and scares and screams galore.
You’ll find a Cursed Voyage – a full-sized ship for you to explore. But be careful what might slip out of the hold to haunt you. Or try walking though Burgen Manor without something creeping up behind you. Maybe you think that Penny’s Playhouse is just a friendly little stop for the kids who love clowns? Don’t be too sure. And every year, Zazzara and his crew try to dream (or is that nightmare?) up something new to add to a creepy collection of ways to elicit a scream.
With a horde of terrifying talent, designed and – executing – the adventure, from actors to makeup artists to the most advanced 3-D technology, astounding sound, and a light system that can illuminate the visions from beyond the grave, you can anticipate an experience that will thrill long after it’s over.
Fright Nights has been named one of the top fifteen Halloween attractions in the country – and it’s right here. Waiting for you.
