It’s already that time of year when you wouldn’t think of walking outside without pulling on a few layers. That wind catches the back of your neck and spreads goose bumps down your spine. Luckily, Central New York isn’t cold enough yet to make us wrap up in our parkas and hide our faces under our hoods. Instead, the weather is the perfect excuse for pulling out our favorite accessories for staying warm and looking stylish.
Hats have always been a favorite of mine since my mom was convinced I’d freeze to death if I weren’t always wearing one. Now I wear beanies almost daily. I pull one on, usually one that matches my outfit, I let a few strands of hair slip out of the front, and I’m good to go. A knitted headband is also a great way to keep your ears warm while still looking ultra stylish – plus they won’t mess your hair up as much as a hat. My favorite is my cream cashmere headband with a bow made of crystals on the side. The bow adds the perfect amount of personality. Make sure to express you personal style with cute embellishments like a knitted flower or sparkling sequins.
Scarves are the perfect way to bundle up and still look on-trend. An infinity scarf is always a good option, but this year it’s time to try something a little more luxurious. Grab a blanket scarf and gather it up so you can wrap it around your neck. Plaid is the perfect fall pattern and looks amazing as it drapes across your outfit. The huge size of the scarf gives you a really cool look while making you feel like you’re still under your blankets at home.
When it comes to keeping your toes toasty, go for some cute socks. Who says you have to hide them inside your shoes? I love to wear a unique pair of sparkly or patterned socks pulled up so they peek out of my boots. They’re the perfect little detail to add to my typically neutral fall outfits. If you’re extra chilly, pull on some stockings under a dress or skirt and wear the socks overtop, that way your feet will stay warm under that extra layer.
As the temperature drops, I hope you can all maintain a little personal style for as long as possible before we’re all forced to hide in our long black coats. Pick something that makes you feel warm and cozy and lets you play with fall trends before that Central New York snow starts to fall.
