On the morning of May, 17th Erin Bolowsky turned the key to open the door that would lead to the all-new Summit Physical Therapy of Cicero. “I remember feeling a whirlwind of emotions,” Bolowsky said. Relieved, accomplished and “at home” were just a few of the things that ran through her mind. “I was a familiar face amongst the members and staff at Champions Fitness Center. So, coming back here was a welcoming opportunity. It was easy, it was familiar, and honestly, it was a breath of fresh air,” says Bolowsky.
Erin had always been passionate about health and wellness, so when it was time to choose a career path, becoming a licensed physical therapist just made sense. Now as Practice Manager of the new Summit Physical Therapy office, Erin knew she was right where she belonged.
Summit Physical Therapy (located inside Champions Fitness Center in Cicero) is a private outpatient physical therapist owned practice with facilities in Syracuse, Manlius, Oswego, Clay, and Cicero, NY. They are a results-oriented practice, and with a team of established professionals you can expect each visit to far surpass your expectations. What is physical therapy and how can it help me?
A physical therapist is a licensed health care professional who examines and evaluates a patient’s condition and then plans and administers treatments to promote optimal health. Physical therapists seek to relieve pain, improve the body’s movement and function, maintain cardiopulmonary function, restore, maintain and promote optimal physical function; and limit disabilities resulting from injury or disease.
Since Summit’s physical therapists are able to work with patients on a one-on-one basis to evaluate their condition, they can develop an effective treatment plan that matches both their needs and their lifestyle. They also work in cooperation with patients’ doctors, so that the most appropriate and effective treatment can be achieved. Summit Physical Therapy works with patients who suffer from many conditions, including:
Summit Physical Therapy uses non-invasive treatments including the McKenzie method and exercise to reduce pain and functional limitations as well as to restore movement. These manual therapies and treatments are evidence based on the medical literature.
Summit Physical Therapy has built a reputation in the Central New York region as being a clinic that can achieve a successful outcome with patients where others have failed. Opening its doors in 1993, Summit Physical Therapy now has 10 physical therapists with a combined experience of over 100 plus years treating outpatient orthopedic patients. “We truly don’t fail. There have been many instances where our clinic has been able to achieve a successful outcome with patients where others have failed,” Ms. Bolowsky said.
At Summit Physical Therapy, there is no changing of clinicians from visit to visit as it happens in some clinics, as this can result in confusion and frustration. You and the physical therapist you are working with will set treatment goals and both of you will work towards achieving those goals together.
“A lot of times insurance companies dictate treatment. I felt it was really important to no longer have anyone dictate the conditions I would treat, how they get treated, or the amount of time I would spend treating a patient,” says Bolowsky. Now that Erin was able to go straight to the source and have control over each client’s treatment, she could make sure that all of her patients would be treated equally. “I want to be your treatment partner and help teach you how to recover from injury, control pain, prevent further injury, and achieve the level of health you desire. We can then tailor and change your program as needed,” Bolowsky said.
Summit Physical Therapy is a results-oriented practice. “If your therapy produces results sooner than anticipated, no more therapy will be required. Because we make patient education an important part of every treatment plan, you’ll leave our practice with a solid understanding of injury prevention and home therapy techniques,” Ms. Bolowsky said.
“Mike Hope, one of the founders of Summit is in the trenches with us every day,” said Bolowsky. It is well known that Mr. Hope specializes in treating challenging patients that have shoulder, knee or spinal conditions that have previously failed to progress in physical therapy. “From the moment I first met Mike, I knew that Summit Physical Therapy would be the perfect fit for me. He truly cares about his patients and he really takes an interest in his staff,” says Bolowsky. Mr. Hope provides his employees with the opportunity to take CE courses. Anything that will help the therapists continue to advance with their education (both through certification and doctoral education) will help provide relief so that patients will be able to return to their normal life.
Erin specializes in pelvic floor physical therapy for both men and women. She also offers treatment in hand therapy, aquatic therapy, balance and vestibular therapy, general orthopedic rehab, and many other orthopedic conditions. However, Summit Physical Therapy has helped patients recover from a variety of conditions, including:

“I know what it’s like to love a job again. I got into this field to help people and to work for a physical therapy office that does just that is amazing,” says Bolowsky.
