Tall guy. You’ve seen him at shows. It seems James “Uncle Jimmy” is everywhere – like at five gigs at the same time. He is out and about. He takes interest in the music scene here in the Central New York area with tremendous enthusiasm and a mission to help. You will often times see him with video equipment, documenting shows.
Further, Uncle Jimmy hosts a variety of social media sites that focus on the area’s music activity. God bless him and everything he stands for. Meet a true friend of the Syracuse music scene, Uncle Jimmy.
Chuck Schiele: You have a unique place in the kaleidoscopic arena of characters as it regards our music scene here in Central New York. How would you describe your place or involvement(s)?
Uncle Jimmy: I supply a service to the community to provide them with information about live music events in Central NY.
CS: Why do you do it?
UJ: Actually just for love of live local music.
CS: What aspects and particular involvements do you enjoy most?
UJ: Interacting with all the amazing musicians we have in Central NY.
CS: What are some of the highlights for you?
UJ: That’s a tough one…there are a lot of great musicians and great shows that I have seen over the years so they all would be highlights for me.
CS: You stream a lot. Tell us about that…what you do…how many you’ve done…
UJ. I do live and recorded videos from in front and on stage from different angles that you normally don’t get to see. I’ve done thousands of videos in the past years.
CS: How many videos do you think are in your archive?
UJ: Since my original facebook page was hacked and taken over, I lost four years worth of videos. Facebook has now deleted that page so my new page has approximately 100 videos on it now. I had to rename it Uncle Jimmy’s Daily Lineup of live music and live videos.
CS: What is your geographical range of territory? It seems like you’re all over the place.
UJ: I cover most of Central NY, Binghamton to Alexandria Bay and Canandaigua to Utica.
CS: If there is something you can see happening in possibly a better way, what might that be?
UJ: I think there’s need for the venues. The musicians play to help the musicians get the word out that they’re playing there. I think they should promote the musicians like they do their product, but they sell food. Beer and wine seems to be a lack of help on their part…a lot, not all of them, but there is a lot that could be done.
CS: Obviously, you dig the music and the culture of it. Please share with us your thoughts on this topic.
UJ: The range of music in Central NY is amazing. The cover bands and the original music bands that are in CNY are second to none. The camaraderie of CNY musicians that work and perform together and help each other out is incredible.
CS: What’s coming up in your near future, musically speaking?
UL: To continue to promote live music where I can. I’m always looking for new ways to promote live local music.
CS: Please tell us about your social media presence and how to stay in touch with your endeavors.
UJ: I have six music group pages under the Uncle Jimmy’s Live Local Music name. Also my main page, Uncle Jimmy’s Daily Lineup of live music and live videos on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Threads.
