Walking into The Preserve at 405 on a brisk November evening, my friend Cat and I were immediately enveloped in its warm, inviting atmosphere. With its tastefully designed interiors and dancing fireplace – a perfect nod to the upcoming winter season – this restaurant exudes charm and sophistication, making it an excellent venue to catch up with friends and family. Leaving our husbands and kids at home, we were eager to pamper ourselves with an evening of laughter, conversation, and indulgence.

Our culinary journey began with the Pump House Cheese Platter, a feast for both the eyes and the palate. A generous assortment of sharp cheddar, Monterey, and pepper jack cheeses was perfectly paired with pepperoni, sopressata, sweet gherkins, creamy goat cheese, pickled beets, crunchy crackers, tangy spicy mustard, juicy grapes, and fresh mozzarella. Every bite brought a new dimension of flavor. We couldn’t resist also ordering the West End Greens, The Preserve’s rendition of greens, a unique blend of escarole sautéed with homemade sausage, prosciutto, cherry peppers, bread crumbs, garlic, and cheese. It was a harmonious medley of textures and tastes that left us eager for the next course. We complemented our meals with salads – me a House Salad with Italian dressing and crumbly blue cheese, and Cat a refreshing Wedge Salad. Both were fresh, crisp, and expertly dressed. To elevate our evening further, we indulged in a martini, opting for “The Filthy,” made with Ketel One vodka, olive juice, and plump blue cheese-stuffed olives. It was the perfect touch of decadence.

Our entrees were equally show-stopping. I savored the Seafood Scampi, a decadent dish brimming with tons of tender lobster, plump scallops, and U12 shrimp, all coated in a creamy scampi sauce and served over delicate angel hair pasta. Each forkful was a testament to The Preserve’s mastery of seafood and flavor. Cat chose the 16 oz. Bone-In Ribeye, prepared flawlessly to medium rare and accompanied by a perfectly baked potato and perfectly seasoned broccoli. The ribeye, with its perfect cook and succulent center, was pure perfection. For dessert, the excellence continued. I couldn’t resist the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake, with its buttery graham cracker crust, silky lemon cheesecake filling, and sweet-tart blueberries served with a side of vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream. Cat’s choice of the Lemon Pound Cake was equally divine – a moist, decadent slice that melted in the mouth with every bite.

There’s truly something on the menu for everyone at The Preserve at 405, making it a dining destination sure to please any palate. For pizza lovers, the options are both creative and mouthwatering. The Neptune is a seafood lover’s dream, featuring a rich scampi base topped with tender grilled shrimp, succulent lobster, creamy mozzarella, and a sprinkle of fresh basil. For something more adventurous, the Porky Pickle is an irresistible combination of garlic base, tangy dill pickles, smoky bacon, and gooey mozzarella, all finished with a drizzle of ranch for a burst of flavor. And let’s not forget the Dougie, a hearty pizza layered with homemade spicy sausage, zesty pepperoni, earthy mushrooms, banana peppers, and mozzarella, offering a perfect balance of savory and spicy. Their selection of soups and salads is equally enticing. A standout is the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad, a vibrant dish featuring earthy roasted beets and creamy goat cheese atop a bed of peppery arugula, complemented by the crunch of chopped walnuts and almonds, all dressed in a light white balsamic vinaigrette.

For those seeking a lighter but equally indulgent option, the Strawberry Salmon Salad combines perfectly grilled salmon with juicy strawberries, tangy goat cheese, and crunchy walnuts on a bed of fresh spinach, all finished with a sweet balsamic glaze that ties the flavors together beautifully. The sandwich and burger offerings are just as impressive, with options that cater to every taste. The Lobster Salad Sandwich is a decadent treat, featuring a generous helping of lobster salad mixed with crisp lettuce, finely diced onion, celery, and their signature dressing, all served on a grilled house bun. For a more classic choice, the Beef on Weck delivers bold flavors with its tender roast beef piled on a Kaiser roll, accompanied by crispy onion rings, zesty horseradish sauce, and a side of au jus for dipping. Even plant-based diners will feel spoiled with the Before the Butcher Burger, hailed as one of the best vegan, non-GMO burgers on the market. Served with vegan mayo and a side of fresh broccoli, it’s a testament to The Preserve’s commitment to offering diverse and delicious options for all. Whether you’re in the mood for seafood, salads, sandwiches, or pizza, the menu at The Preserve at 405 ensures a memorable dining experience with every bite.
