Looking back throughout human history – and across cultures – there are a few themes that figure into our celebrations without fail. The seasons, with fall and winter playing as important a role as spring, and the winter and summer solstice time being honored as far back as 10,000 BC. The harvest has also long been honored as a time – or times, depending on what harvests a culture depended upon – celebrated as “Harvest Home,” or “Crop Over,” as it is called in Barbados.
Spring and planting were often accompanied by ceremony, and most cultures had festivals of athletic and musical performance, letting the people enjoy the best their town, city, state or nation had to offer in sports and entertainment.
One feature of virtually all of those festivals, not to mention its being a festival maker of its own, is the local production of beer, wine, cider and spirits. Whenever and wherever people gathered, the makers of the “imbibables” historically supplied an important part of the fun, festivity, and delightful taste that the region literally “brought to the table!”
And that’s what the New York State Craft Brewers Festival is all about – a celebration, specifically a festival featuring the wonderful array of craft brews that are produced right here in New York State, and celebrated with you right here in Syracuse, New York!
The chosen season for the Festival is no accident. Fall is the beginning of our holiday season, a time when we wrap up the year, reflect and remember, look forward and make plans, engage in honored and beloved holiday-making, and simply kick back and enjoy as the days grower shorter.
And on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, as family begins to gather and tastebuds are warming up for the seasonal foods, what better time to get things started than with a stop downtown to the historic Landmark Theatre, where over 45 breweries from every region of New York State will be literally “on tap,” bringing you tastes of their craft beers, food pairings, and a wide range of cider, spirits, wines, other drinks all made nearby by people as devoted to your good times as you are!
Take this time and discover new styles, flavors, and brands, and meet the masters behind the craft you love! Brewery owners and representatives pour at the events, NO volunteers. You can ask questions, try something new, and enjoy a chat with a pro.
