Santangelo’s

With some many great restaurants in town “where should we go for dinner?” can sometimes be a difficult choice to make.

Let me make it easy for you: head to Santangelo’s! Santangelo’s has been satisfying Central New York’s craving for amazing and consistently delicious Italian cuisine since 1986! At Santangelo’s you can choose from tried and true traditional Italian favorites from family recipes or new and exciting, Italian inspired recipes.  When only the best in Italian cuisine will do, head over to Santangelo’s Restaurant, conveniently located just a short 5 minute drive from Downtown Syracuse at 673 Old Liverpool Road in Liverpool.  They are open Monday – Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Friday from 11:30 am. to 11 p.m., (they serve both lunch and dinner during the weekdays), on the weekends they are open for dinner on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  You know that a restaurant is doing something right when they stand the test of time and the Santangelo family wants to once again thank all of their loyal friends and customers who have helped make Santangelo’s a success.

The Samuel’s Sampler with savory Clams Casino, freshly breaded Fried Mozzarella, the best Fried Calamari in town and heaping Stuffed Mushrooms.

For more than 30 years the Santangelo family has been living the American Dream; they opened a place to feed customers their Grandma’s recipes and staffed it with their loving family. Father Sam and son Guilio (along with the help of mother, Sally, and seven other Santagelo siblings) opened their restaurant with a dollar and a dream in 1986 and although the journey hasn’t been easy it seems as if the Santangelo Family has cracked the code for success in the industry. They have grown over the years thanks to their commitment to serving  delicious food with fresh ingredients, dedicated staff (of family and employees whom they consider family) and, of course, their loyal customers.  Be sure to pay close attention to their menu as most dishes are named after family members. Guilio joked that as the family keeps growing, the menu has to get bigger as well! What really sets them apart is their love of what they do; you can taste it in every single bite. Whether it be Guilio in the kitchen, Maria taking her time to work out a menu perfect for your upcoming event, or another member of the Santangelo family hosting, serving, or bussing the tables, you are never more than a few feet away from a dedicated member of the family ensuring you have an amazing dining experience.

Kyle’s New England Clam Chowder and salad.

Kyle and I went to Santangelo’s on a snowy December night.  We were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess and given a cozy booth wherein we would enjoy a fantastic meal. We immediately noticed the fantastic window decorations; each window was decorated with a holiday theme, and we were sitting at the adorable Grinch themed window! We were starving so we decided to start with two appetizers. First we had the Samuel’s Sampler with savory Clams Casino, freshly breaded Fried Mozzarella, the best Fried Calamari in town and heaping Stuffed Mushrooms.  We also couldn’t pass up the daily appetizer special of lightly breaded, super creamy goat cheese served with bruschetta and lightly toasted bread. I just need to add that this dish is my absolute favorite appetizer!  Both appetizers were beautifully plated, mouthwatering perfection.  For the next course I decided on the Amanda-rin Orange Salad (mandarin oranges, strawberries, walnuts, raisins and fresh mozzarella over field greens with a balsamic vinaigrette) and Kyle had a cup of New England clam chowder. At this point we both had had enough that we should have stopped eating, but it was just so good we couldn’t pass up more food! When our entrées came we couldn’t believe our eyes; everything looked so appetizing. I decided to order the Seared Scallops Ala Colombo, a giant portion of perfectly tender scallops, penne pasta, mushrooms, peas, and tomatoes served in a delightful vodka cream sauce. The flavors were absolutely wonderful in this dish.  Kyle decided on the Shrimp Ala Theresa (Sautéed shrimp, prosciutto, spinach, onions and diced tomatoes in herb butter wine sauce over homemade linguini). This dish packed a ton of flavor into each forkful! One tip to all of you diners, whatever you do be sure to save room for one of their many mouthwatering desserts! This night we took our desserts to go, I had a gigantic slice of the lemon berry mascarpone cake with berries and Kyle couldn’t resist a homemade cannoli!
