We visited on a sunny Saturday, and the moment we stepped inside we were greeted by upbeat music, the sizzling sounds of fajitas from the kitchen, and the mouthwatering aromas of fresh Mexican cooking. We were seated in a cozy booth, and our server Brayden set the tone for the night: friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Before we knew it, warm tortilla chips and Azteca’s signature salsa were on the table. Crisp, salty, and addictive, the chips had both kids diving in with joy while we savored the bold, zesty salsa. To kick things off, I ordered a Red Moon Margarita, a playful and refreshing twist blending strawberry margarita with Blue Moon beer. It was delightfully smooth, tangy, and sweet, the perfect start to a festive evening. For appetizers, we chose the Coctel de Camarón, and let me just say, it was one of the best shrimp cocktails I’ve ever had. Served in a tall, elegant glass, it was loaded with plump, tender shrimp, fresh avocado, diced tomatoes, jalapeños, and cilantro, all swimming in a chilled, slightly spicy tomato-based broth that screamed vacation in every bite. Each spoonful was tangy, refreshing, and perfectly balanced.
We also tried the new Mexican Street Corn with all the classic flavors of creamy, cheesy, lime-kissed elote but served in a dish off of the cob, making it easier to share and enjoy. As someone who loves the flavor of street corn but not the hassle of gnawing it off the cob, I found this to be absolute genius! The kids were thrilled with the Niños menu, with Johnny choosing a burrito with rice and Maggie happily munching her cheese quesadilla and fries. Both meals were hearty, satisfying, and, most importantly for families, kid-approved, making the evening one of the easiest and most enjoyable meals out we’ve had in a while! For my entrée, I couldn’t resist the Chimichangas, two golden, deep-fried flour tortillas stuffed with seasoned beef tips, smothered in gooey melted cheese, and topped with crisp lettuce, fresh guacamole, and cool sour cream. Served alongside creamy refried beans, it was indulgent, flavorful, and perfectly executed. Kyle opted for the Enchiladas Trio, a colorful presentation of three enchiladas, one chicken, one cheese, and one beef, each topped with its own sauce representing the colors of the Mexican flag: vibrant green tomatillo, smooth creamy white, and a rich, spiced red sauce. Served with rice and guacamole salad, it was as much a feast for the eyes as the palate. Dessert was simply too tempting to pass up. We shared the Chimi Cheesecake, a deep-fried tortilla stuffed with velvety cheesecake filling, rolled in cinnamon sugar, and drizzled with chocolate and caramel. Paired with ice cream and whipped cream, it was decadent, crunchy, and creamy all at once. We also tried the Volcán de Chocolate, a molten chocolate cake filled with silky ganache, topped with vanilla ice cream, and accented with bright raspberry sauce. Rich, warm, and indulgent, it was the perfect finale to a memorable meal.
What makes Azteca so special isn’t just the food, though that alone is reason enough to visit. It’s the way the menu offers something for everyone: vegetarians, gluten sensitive, spice lovers, and those who prefer milder dishes alike. The spiciness and gluten sensitive options are clearly marked, making it easy to choose your comfort zone, and the variety is exceptional. From Tuesday to Saturday lunch specials (11:30am–3pm) to drink specials like Monday and Wednesday $5.50 Mojitos and Thursday $4.75 Margaritas, Azteca gives you every reason to keep coming back. On our next visit, we’ve already planned to dive into their Street Tacos, with choices like Al Pastor with pineapple, slow-cooked Carnitas, and savory Quesabirria with consommé for dipping, or maybe the indulgent Piña Fajita, where a fresh pineapple is stuffed with grilled chicken or shrimp, vegetables, rice, and cheese.
