When a community loves its restaurants, and the restaurants owners and staff love its customers, what do they do?
Have a celebration of great eating called “Dining Weeks!”
For over 20 years, Dining Weeks has served up some of the best lunches, dinners, sweets & treats created in downtown Syracuse for the dining pleasure of the broader Central New York area (and beyond). And each year it just seems to get better and better, now a highly anticipated event for everyone. Said Merike Treier, Executive Director, Downtown Committee of Syracuse, “Downtown Dining Weeks is an event that has continued to grow year after year. With the variety of amazing places to dine in Downtown Syracuse, and tastes to please every palate, we’re excited to see how our community has embraced this event, which helps it continue to thrive.”
The argument probably doesn’t need to be made that by March, and particularly this cold and snowy winter, the idea of getting out and enjoying a good meal sounds more than a little appealing. But perhaps it’s been a while since you met friends for lunch, or tried an entirely new cuisine?
This is your perfect opportunity, as over 40 participating restaurants will not only be showing off their best, but offering 2- and 3- course “prix fixe” menus!
Syracuse boasts a wide range of restaurants celebrating everything from a good old American burger to Thai, Middle Eastern, Mexican, Italian, and more global and and beloved choices. Whatever you’re in the mood for, you will no doubt find it in downtown – and if you want to challenge your tastebuds, there’s plenty of opportunity to experiment.
The Downtown Committee of Syracuse, the organizer of the annual event, and the many and varied restaurants in the city’s busy urban center, are equally delighted to bring residents and visitors an event that lets each give the other a hearty “thanks!” Syracusans are proud and happy to support the cuisine in the Salt City, and the restaurants have a chance to celebrate their patrons in a once-a-year dining event.
It really is a win-win proposition for a city that may be getting a little weary of winter. The restaurants are ready to fill back up, the diners are ready to get out of the house and, as Sarah Tietje-Mietz, Marketing and Events Manager, Downtown Committee of Syracuse put it, “Downtown Syracuse has really solidified its reputation as a dining destination in Central New York thanks to the incredible restaurants featuring all types of cuisines, all in one convenient location. The special menus and great prices make Downtown Dining Weeks the perfect reason to explore all these options – for lunch, dinner or a special treat.”
It’s hard to argue with that. The idea of walking into a warm and welcoming bistro, pub, elegant restaurant or small café, smelling the enticing aromas of the food being expertly prepared, shrugging off a coat and gloves, and then sitting down to a drink and scanning through a menu of familiar, or completely new and intriguing, choices – sounds appealing, doesn’t it?
