Euclid Restaurant

If you’re looking for a restaurant that feels like home, serves up incredible comfort food, and knows how to celebrate the seasons, look no further than Euclid Restaurant in Clay, NY. Nestled at 4285 State Route 31, this beloved establishment has been a cornerstone of the community since 1817, making it the oldest restaurant in town still serving its original purpose. Originally built as an inn and tavern, Euclid has evolved over the years, but its commitment to providing delicious meals and warm hospitality has never changed. Today, it remains a go-to destination for locals and visitors alike, whether they’re craving a comforting homemade dinner, a legendary fish fry, or a festive holiday meal.

After being snowed in for days, Kyle, the kids and I decided to venture out on a busy Saturday evening, and the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed by Euclid’s inviting atmosphere – this time with shamrocks! The restaurant was bustling with energy; families gathered around tables, a birthday being celebrated, friends chatting over drinks, and the aroma of slow-roasted prime rib filling the air. Despite the crowd, we were quickly seated at a cozy table, where our server, Cat, greeted us with a friendly smile. She was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made us feel right at home, especially when it came to the little ones!

We started our meal with two appetizers that set the stage for a fantastic dining experience. The garlic cheese curds were crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, served with a tangy marinara sauce that perfectly complemented the rich cheese. The soft pretzel sticks were another hit – warm, fluffy, and served with a creamy jalapeño cheese dip that had just the right amount of spice. The kids split a cheeseburger from the Kiddie Korner, which offers an excellent selection of affordable and kid-friendly meals. For the main course, Euclid’s reputation for prime rib made our choice easy. Kyle ordered the massive 24-ounce Cattleman’s Cut, a thick, juicy cut of slow-roasted prime rib, cooked perfectly rare just as he requested. It was tender, full of flavor, and practically melted in his mouth. He paired it with a fresh garden salad with ranch dressing and a generous portion of crispy, golden fries.

I couldn’t resist the broiled scallops, and they did not disappoint. Each scallop was large, buttery, and perfectly cooked to a delicate, tender texture. My meal came with a crisp salad topped with crumbly blue cheese and fries, making for an indulgent yet satisfying combination. Even though we were comfortably full, we couldn’t leave without trying one of Euclid’s famous homemade desserts. We opted for the peanut butter pie, and it was absolute perfection – rich, creamy, and layered with velvety peanut butter filling on a crisp, chocolatey crust and drizzled in chocolate. Each bite was pure indulgence, and we savored every last morsel.

While the food at Euclid is incredible any day of the week, their daily specials are what truly make this restaurant shine. Tuesdays bring comforting chicken and biscuits, a warm and hearty classic. Wednesdays feature sauerbraten, a traditional German dish served with red cabbage and egg noodles, bursting with tangy, savory flavor. Thursdays are all about pasta lovers, offering all-you-can-eat spaghetti or ziti, served with either two meatballs or a sausage. And of course, Fridays are legendary for their fish fry, arguably the best in town, boasting Lake perch and walleye! The fish is perfectly crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside, served with fries and coleslaw, making Euclid the top spot for fresh fish during Lent.

One of the best times to visit Euclid is St. Patrick’s Day, when the restaurant transforms into a festive Irish haven. From March 15-17, they roll out three days of special Irish-inspired meals, including perfectly cooked corned beef and cabbage and hearty ham and cabbage. The entire restaurant is decorated in shamrocks, the atmosphere is lively, and the food is nothing short of authentic Irish comfort. And if you’re a fan of Reubens, Euclid is known for serving the best open-faced Reuben in town, topped with your choice of sauerkraut or red cabbage, a must-try for any sandwich lover.

Whether you’re stopping by for a casual weeknight dinner, a traditional Friday fish fry, or a festive St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Euclid Restaurant delivers an unbeatable experience. The food is consistently excellent, the service is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is inviting, a perfect blend of small-town charm and top-notch dining.
