Fresh from an appearance at the Mary Gauthier headlined Roots on the River Festival in Vermont, nationally touring Buffalo, NY based songsmith Davey O. returns to Central New York in support of his critically acclaimed 7 song EP “No Passengers”. This appearance is part of a three songwriter evening that also features Chuck Schiele and Randy Niles for the Storytellers Series at Funk N Waffles (downtown), 313 S. Clinton Street in Syracuse at 6:00 pm. Tickets for this show are $5.00
Recorded and co-produced by Neale Eckstein at Fox Run Studios in Sudbury, MA, “No Passengers” features six of the 2013 Kerrville Folk Finalist’s own songs, very sparsely arranged, with the artist tackling all vocal and instrumental duties. The 7th song on the EP and arguably its centerpiece is a breathtaking cover of the traditional classic, “Long Black Veil”.
Since its release in September 2014, “No Passengers” has won the hearts of Folk and Roots DJ alike, debuting at the #3 spot on the Roots Music Reports Radio Charts and remaining a Top 20 Contemporary Folk Album for over 3 months. “No Passengers” was also honored with inclusion on the 2014 “Best of/Favorites” lists of no less than six radio stations – WHRW (Binghamton, NY), WAMC (Albany, NY), WMSC (Montclair, NJ), Radio Crystal Blue (Tacoma, WA), WVPE (Elkhart, IN) and The Sundilla Radio Hour (Auburn, AL). “No Passengers” was also graded among the Top 100 Contemporary Folk Albums of 2014 on the Roots Music Reports, landing in the #26 position.
Davey’s previous release, “Testing For Rust” (2012) was also counted among the “Best of 2012” lists of four stations – WHRW (Binghamton, NY), 90FM (Stevens Point, WI), WVPE (Elkhart, IN), and WMSC (Montclair, NJ) and Davey was named “2013 Best New Artist” by Dan Herman of Radio Crystal Blue in Tacoma, WA.
