Fun Makeup Trends You May Want to Try this Year
Embracing some of the newest makeup trends of the year may bring the right amount of sparkle to your makeup routine. From color mixing to bold liner, I’ve got you covered. If you were wondering what was in style this year, look no further, we have got you covered.
My makeup routine is very simple: under-eye concealer, a little liquid blush, brow serum, and lip gloss. When I am feeling fancy, I add some mascara. While I do have the desire to master my makeup skills like the gorgeous TikTok girlies, I recognize my own limits. One day I will go to Sephora and get color-matched and taught how to completely elevate my routine. With so much time being dedicated to school, I feel as though I hardly have time for anything else – especially acquiring a new skill, like makeup. In the meantime though, I am stepping outside of my comfort zone with the following trends:
Lip Liner
I tried lip liner for the first time during the pandemic and I had a time! I loved how it added an ombre effect to my lips. As a young girl, I would watch my mother line her lips with dark liner before adding her glosses. I had no clue that I would one day be doing the same. Taking a dark brown liner and placing a clear gloss over it can go well with any neutral look. 
Monochromatic Looks
Having a color scheme in mind for your makeup is far from boring. Choosing a lip color first can help you center your makeup around that particular color. For example, taking a brown lip color and sweeping your lids with a brown shadow can create a sultry look. For a more rosy, gorgeously flushed look, you can do the same with a light pink.
Color Mixing
This is quite the opposite of monochromatic makeup. Instead, you use different colors for each element of your routine and rock it out! You can pop a pink color on the lips and add a lavender wing to your eyes. It is all about how you make it your own; as long as all the colors complement each other, the mix of colors will be beautiful.
Bold Eyeliner
Having a bold liner at the center of your makeup look can make for a dramatic statement. This trend has resurfaced on TikTok with helpful tutorials and glamorous videos. Creating a wing with a black liner draws attention to the eye and its shape. Bold liners can be perfect for a night out with friends or on a day when you want to spice up your look. 
These makeup looks are not only fun but can be useful in getting out of your comfort zone. Before trying blush for the first time I thought it wouldn’t look good on me. After I found the right tone of blush for my skin, I realized how beautiful it looked. I would have never realized this unless I had challenged myself to step outside of my comfort zone and see what would happen. Now, I wear blush nearly every time I do my makeup. It is a staple and my routine now feels incomplete without it.
Sometimes trying something new little by little can help ease you into a lifestyle of seeking and being open to newness and adventure. I hope that you try something new.
