Ponchito’s Taqueria

Are you looking for the best burrito in town? If so, there is only one place in Central New York to go: Ponchito’s Taqueria! Ponchito’s is owned and operated by the Mignacca Family (Frank and his six children – Paul, Michael, Lisa, Frankie, Matthew, Leah, and Jake) who focus on Latin American inspired flavors and freshness.

DSCN2217Skip the chain restaurants and head to over to one of Ponchito’s two conveniently locations, 3800 New Court Ave in Syracuse open from 7 am to 9 pm Monday through Friday, and noon to 9pm on Saturday (closed for siesta on Sunday) or the Valley Location at 410 West Seneca Turnpike open from 11 am to 9 pm Monday through Friday and Noon to 9 pm on Saturday (also closed for siesta on Sunday). If you are looking for seriously good food then look no further than Ponchito’s.

Ponchito’s Taqueria is based on a concept of bring the flavors of the Latin culture to Syracuse like it has never been before. DSCN2220While traveling through South America, owner Frank Mignacca was impressed by the fresh and delicious foods served everywhere from roadside stands to expensive restaurants. Each eatery offered something a little different because they used family recipes and only the fresh ingredients that were available. Frank decided that he would use the idea of using traditional Latin American recipes and techniques with only the freshest ingredients in central New York. This seemingly simple idea resulted in Ponchito’s being the unrivaled champions of Latin American cuisine in Central New York and they will be celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2017! At Ponchitos they will never claim to be authentic Latin American food because Frank feels that authenticity goes away when you cross the border because the same ingredients are not available outside of the towns and villages he visited. What he will tell you (and we have to agree!) is that Ponchito’s makes the best burrito in town with using only the freshest ingredients available. Frank goes to the market to pick out the freshest vegetables and orders meat locally so it is always delivered fresh, never frozen.

Start your day off right with breakfast at Ponchito’s on New Court Street. Come in Monday through friday for a delicious breakfast burrito with your choice of bacon, ham, or chorizo served with eggs (cracked in front of you, never from liquid eggs), home fries (from actual potatoes), peppers, onions, cheese, homemade pico de gallo, and hot sauce. When you come to Ponchito’s for lunch or dinner at either location you can choose from Burritos (Super or Regular) with fresh, hot flour tortilla with choice of filling (ground beef, carnitas, chicken, steak, or grilled veggies) and rice, beans, cheese, salsa and hot sauce, Tacos with fresh hot corn tortilla with choice of filling (ground beef, carnitas, chicken, steak, or grilled veggies) and salsa, lettuce, hot sauce and a lime wedge, quesadillas, rice and beans, assorted empanadas. DSCN2222They also offer fish tacos, burritos, and quesadilla with fresh fried or grilled haddock. They also offer taco salads and nachos as well as sides like chips and homemade guacamole. For something truly unique try the specialty chicken wings (always fresh, never frozen) with their very own 9 ingredient wing sauce that uses Coke and Dr. Pepper. Everything on the menu is fantastic because what sets Ponchito’s apart is the fresh, quality ingredients. All of the produce is hand selected for the market daily. The meats are delivered fresh 3 or 4 times a week. Everything is prepared fresh on site every day.

Food truck and catering

DSCN6480Ponchito’s wants to cater your upcoming event. Frank will work with you to build a menu that is perfect for your upcoming event, big or small. They specialize in international catering with the ability to make a menu based on dishes from different regions. They obviously excel in Latin American cuisine and can set up a taco or burrito bar for your guests or they can even make them to order. They also have other Latin American dishes such as red rice with meat, baked chicken with cilantro, peppers and chilies, just to name a few. They can create and Italian menu with options such as eggplant parmesan, ziti, antipasto, sausage with peppers and onions, homemade meatballs, and mussels marinara. They can also create an Asian inspired menu with options like shrimp and fish, Asian soups, and eggrolls. They are also working on a Bavarian menu with Germanic inspirations with sausage and noodles. Ponchito’s has a food truck they will bring to your event. Also, be on the lookout for the Ponchiots food truck around town this summer!

Ponchito’s has manDSCN6485y loyal customers that have become like family and they love seeing new faces all of the time. Frank knew he had succeeded with his concept for Ponchito’s when two Ecuadorian workers told him the food was really good- and then they ate there at least once a day for the two months they were in town! Frank and his family are not trained Latin American chefs; they just know what tastes good so they took a great concept from another culture and brought it to us. Every day they are proving that they can take the concept of Latin American cuisine and make it in a way that Central New Yorkers love! ! Check them out on facebook or on their website: http://www.ponchitostaqueria.com. Over the past decade Ponchitos has been often imitated but never duplicated. Stop by either location today to taste the best burrito in town!
