Tassone’s Wine Garden is not just a restaurant in the community; they are a part of our community. The Tassone family has been committed to serving great food with unbeatable service for nearly a century! From moving to Syracuse in the 1920’s to opening a variety of eateries and a bakery in the 1940’s to serving innovative new dishes, new twists on old favorites, and tried and true family recipes the Tassone family has been serving hungry Central New Yorker’s for three generations.  Tassone’s Wine Garden is committed to giving back to the community and participates in fundraisers and dining for dollars. It is their way of saying thank you to the community that has allowed them to do what they love for so long.

Kyle and I went to Tassone’s Wine Garden on a freezing December evening, after a long Saturday of shopping and cooking for the Holidays. One of my favorite things about dining at Tassone’s Wine Garden is that it seems that every time we arrive there is a group of people celebrating something. This night they were hosting an 80th birthday party.  Although the party area is separate from the main dining area the fun and enthusiasm of people celebrating always manages to spill into the main dining area. This night’s party went above and beyond by hiring a bagpiper as surprise entertainment for the guest of honor. The entire restaurant got to enjoy the music and even joined in singing happy birthday with the party guests. Tassone’s Wine Garden gives you a sense of happiness and comfort every time you walk in.  Adding to this atmosphere is their incredible staff, many of whom have been with them for a very, very long time. This time we had the pleasure of having Mary as our server. Mary has been with Tassone’s for over 25 years. Even though it had been a while since we were at Tassone’s Mary recognized us and even remembered my husband’s favorite dish!

We started our meal with the Coconut Crusted Shrimp- large coconut shrimp, lightly fried and served with sweet pepper chili glaze, a perfect mix of sweet and spice and an order of Fried Calamari, lightly breaded and served with garlic and cocktail sauce. The portion of calamari was very generous and Kyle loved the homemade garlic sauce that added a new and different take on an old favorite.  We then received a large portion of freshly baked bread with homemade, scrumptious garlic butter. For entrées Kyle had the Scallops O’Grady, with chopped bacon, scallions, tomatoes and sea scallops sautéed in a light butter lemon-garlic white wine sauce over a bed of linguine. I don’t know how this will translate to writing but this dish tasted like a deconstructed BLT, in an amazing new way.  Every single bite was bursting with flavor, it was just so, so, so good.  This is Kyle’s all-time favorite dish and every time Tassone’s is mentioned it is immediately followed by him saying “You have to get the Scallops O’Grady” For my entrée I ordered the December special of Seafood Neuburg served over linguine.  It was a rich and creamy dish of seafood perfection. This dish was loaded with what seemed to be a never ending amount of shrimp, scallops, and crab. I don’t think they could have fit another shrimp in the dish if they tried. This special was certainly an awesome dish for a seafood lover! As always, the gigantic portion served by Tassone’s Wine Garden was too much to finish in one sitting.  No trip to Tassone’s is complete without something off of their homemade dessert menu.  We decided to split my absolute favorite dessert, a Tassone family secret recipe, coconut cream pie. My favorite part about this pie is that you can taste the love in the flakey crust and the rich yet remarkably light and cloud-like filling.
